Mercy McKinney

2009 ~ 2026

A neighbor abandoned 2 mother cats including Mercy and her siblings in 2009 when they were 8 weeks old and the neighbor couldn’t be charged due to medical reasons. As they got older, the mothers came at feeding time for the feral cats I took care of. Then in 2011 Mercy and her mother both showed up in the middle of a snow storm and both were pregnant. I took both in and Mercy had 5 kittens the next day and her mother had 4 a couple of days later. I adopted all of them. Mercy had been on her own for over a year and had become very feral. It took patience and time but she finally accepted me and would only let me hold her. In the end she was the one who slept on my lap when I was working on the computer and slept with me at night. When she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, I knew the time would come too soon when I would have to make the dreaded decision to relieve her of the condition that caused her blindness and ability to be the active, loving feline she was. I miss her more than words can ever tell. How I miss her yowling to let me know she was ready for her nap with me and if I was late for meal time or night time treat time. The hardest part was that her daughter, KayLee, had a nasal tumor that was inoperable due to her age. Both quit eating at the same time and went to Rainbow Bridge together.
